Atherton Tablelands Accommodation Barking Owl Retreat's cottage the "Owl's Hollow " is nestled alongside Native Bush land and has views across the paddock to the cattle yards with a mountain back drop. The cottage was named the "Owl's Hollow", as a pair of Barking Owl's nested in the large Blue Gum tree outside the cottage whilst we were building the Retreat. They also returned to the Blue Gum the following year after the building was completed. The Barking Owl's often reside in the Native Bush land next to the cottages, and can be heard anywhere from the property orchard all the way up to the Dingo's Lair. Although the Barking Owls are more prominent during the cooler months and their breeding season in August, most guests do enjoy hearing their soft wook-wook call at night.
